Six Championship Golf Courses
Southport is home to the UK’s highest concentration of championship links courses and is widely regarded as ‘England’s Golfing Capital’. Royal Birkdale in Southport regularly hosts the The Open Championship with the last one being in July 2008.
Southport Air Show
The Southport Air Show is back in September for its 21st birthday! Come and enjoy a family day out at the biggest event of its kind in the North West. Witness pure magic in the sky as skilled pilots demonstrate some truly stunning aerobatics.
Southport Flower Show
Flowers, gardening, horticulture and floral arts are, and will remain, the cherished heart of the show. However, over the past few years, the show has also become a more urbane experience that now includes food, leisure and entertainment.
Southport Fireworks Show
Lighting up Kings Gardens, over three nights, seven competitors all battle it out with their firework displays set to music to amaze the audience and the judges and be crowned the champion of the competition.
Botanic Gardens
Originally opened in 1874 these classic Victorian gardens are rich in history and beauty. The gardens are packed with floral displays and wildlife and boast a winding lake the length of the park. There’s also a café, aviary and gift shop and it’s free to park here too. There is also a regular bus service from Lord Street.
Martin Mere
Many wetlands are highly productive and support far more species than would be expected for the surface area that they cover. They are also essential habitats that provide society with a wide range of benefits, yet society often takes wetlands for granted.
RSPB Marshside
There’s something for everyone all year round at this delightful coastal reserve. In the spring you can see brown hares boxing in the fields, while in the early summer you’ll spot nesting birds like avocets and lapwings. During the winter months the skies fill with visiting waterfowl such as pink-footed geese and wigeons, not to mention birds of prey that can set flocks wheeling over the marshes.
